Geriatrics (GERI) is designed to introduce students to the unique considerations involved in the management of geriatric patients. Through classroom-based lectures, faculty-guided discussions, case-based learning, and interactive activities, students explore the physiologic, cognitive, behavioral, pharmacologic, and social aspects of aging that influence oral healthcare delivery. Emphasis is placed on communication techniques, mobility and access-to-care issues, dementia, psychiatric and neuromuscular disorders, treatment planning modifications, and interprofessional management of older adults. Successful completion of GERI is required for progression to the D3 year.
