Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine (LCSVM).  What an exciting time for aspiring veterinarians, who will be able to earn their veterinary degrees right here in Arkansas. 

At Lyon, our goal is to graduate highly skilled veterinary medical professionals who are career ready. Notably, we intend to graduate future ready veterinarians who are life-long learners prepared to thrive in a constantly evolving veterinary profession that exists in an exponentially changing world. Our graduates should be prepared to succeed in one or more of the plethora of career paths available to them – including those that do not yet exist. 

The following curriculum is designed to engage students in their own learning process – and truly inspire them. They will develop competencies through hands-on experiences in clinical skills laboratories, robust simulation experiences, extended realities, and, of course, working with live animals. Digital native students of today will be
exposed to new technologies to enhance their education, veterinary care, and business success. To complement medical knowledge, they will learn important life skills to help ensure their success, such as adapting to change, working within teams, and leveraging communications within and beyond the workplace.  

It takes a village to provide the best veterinary education possible. Powerful partnerships afford the students
real-world experiences. In our distributed model of clinical training, students work side-by-side with smart, competent, successful veterinary professionals in practice settings. Students are exposed to animal shelter programs, the livestock, poultry, and equine industries, rural communities, government organizations, organized veterinary medicine, and more.

Our graduates will deploy throughout Arkansas and beyond to find fulfillment in the best profession in the world - veterinary medicine.
